As we find ourselves at the end of a sleepy summer of funny old weather, we are delighted to have some really fantastic news for you. Our team is growing!
Emily Smit-Dicks is joining Second Cashmere as partner and will be taking on our creative work including making, designing, mending and reworking - and she's already got started creating a stunning collection of cashmere designs across clothing and accessories.
Emily is an artist, maker and educator based in our lovely city of Glasgow. Originally from Toronto, she spent 14 years as a costume maker in film and television, and in 2017, Emily found her way to Scotland to complete her Masters of Fine Art degree at the Glasgow School of Art.
With a big interest in sustainable practice and education, Emily has lead various workshops around mending and repair, is a Fashion Technician at the Glasgow School of Art and a Lecturer in Dressmaking and Sewing at Clyde College.
Emily has been interested in working with reclaimed materials for a number of years, concerned about the environmental impact of the fashion industry and the amount of waste it produces. Her project Woolgathering, makes patchwork and quilted textiles from repurposed materials and is absolutely worth a look if you have a moment. Woolgathering is right up our street!
We are so excited to welcome Emily to Second Cashmere and we can't wait to show you what we've been up to.
